Meet Spanky. CleverPup101 is Spanky’s namesake. Patty Vesalo, founder of
CleverPup, adopted Spanky as a pup in 1992 at Cliffton Arts Festival in
Lakewood, Ohio.
Voted least likely to succeed in her puppy class, Spanky was not an easy
puppy. Her high energy combined with her high intelligence equaled a giant
challenge, to say the least. Especially for her then busy-corporate-world
human and wanna-be trainer.
Spanky grew in to an amazing dog. Despite her classmates’ lack of confidence,
she flew through the AKC Canine Good Citizen test and became a working
therapy dog at University Hospitals in Cleveland. Click on Spanky’s business

Now, 15 plus years later, Patty will tell you almost everything she has learned
about loving, living with, caring for and training dogs is Spanky’s due. “If we
only let them, dogs will teach us everything we need to know,” Patty explains.
Today Spanky is still spunky and brilliant, perhaps tempered with some
wisdom. She has helped raise many puppies in the Vesalo household. And she
still is the apple of Patty’s eye.
