The CleverPup philosophy is based in a three simple premises:
1) When know that the results of our actions will be in our best interest, we do
things with more passion, greater consistency and with higher motivation. We
repeat those things that bring us good outcomes. We feel clever! In the same
way, we learn not to repeat behaviors that bring results opposite those we want.
At a base level, this is instinctive survival.
2) Dogs are pack animals. If you have a dog, you adopted an pack animal who
sees you as part of their pack. Having an established hierarchy is critical for the
pack to survive. Understanding canine leadership allows us to establish ourselves
as benevolent leaders of the pack. Most dogs would prefer you to lead. But we
have to learn how to do that in canine terms.
3) The most effective way to solve most problems is to back up and look at the
whole picture. Isolating a particular incident or behavior and trying to treat it
specifically may be missing the forest for the trees.
Combining these concepts, CleverPup101 teaches practical family-dog training with
non-confrontive techniques. “Coach Vesalo” carries a large “bag of tricks” to
individualize training to each human/dog team. The focus is holistic: evaluating
canine nutrition, health, exercise, leadership and bonding. The result is positive
loving, relationships, solid temperament and good health.
